The Laboratory Assistant is an integral part of our Research and Development team based out of our US - Willow Island, WV site.

 

Position Details

The Lab Assistant provides support to the Fermentation Pilot Plant by playing a key role in the execution of fermentation experiments.  S/he will prepare and maintain the pilot plant materials, equipment, instrumentation and glassware.  The Assistant is an essential member of the pilot plant team and requires the ability to provide reliable and timely support to the operation of the unit.  The successful candidate will use excellent attention to detail when performing tasks through multi-tasking and multi-functional organization.  After a training period, the colleague will be expected to act with moderate supervision.

 

The team will rely on the Lab Assistant to provide reliable support for the execution of fermentation experiments.  This involves assembling the materials required for the fermentation runs, including raw materials from the provided recipes, and the preparation of supplementary items such as glassware, tubing, and filtration equipment.  The operation of associated laboratory equipment is also involved, such as autoclaves, pumps, mixers, and weigh scales.

 

The Assistant will maintain a high level of housekeeping within the entire pilot plant. S/he will maintain the inventory of supplies associated with the role; ensure the reliability and timely maintenance of equipment; and assist with general pilot plant and lab work tasks, including the use of lab instruments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works in conjunction with the Fermentation Pilot Plant team with moderate supervision
  • Timely executes duties to ensure effective implementation of fermentation experiments
  • Maintains housekeeping responsibilities in the Fermentation Pilot Plant
  • Prepares materials from provided recipes for fermentation
  • Prepares reagents, solutions, and samples
  • Cleans and stores glassware
  • Is responsible for sanitizing, and reassembling bottles and transfers
  • Maintains inventory of supplies associated with the role
  • Assists in ensuring the reliability of equipment and timely maintenance
  • Assists with general pilot plant and lab work tasks, including the use of lab instruments

Education & Experience

  • High School degree or equivalent is required.
  •  Associate Degree or equivalent experience in Biology, Microbiology or Life Sciences is preferred
