The Global Category Lead - APIs & Raw Materials is an integral part of our Procurement team based out of our US - Teaneck, NJ site.

Position Details
The Global Category Lead – Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) & Raw Materials is responsible for managing the procurement strategy and execution for APIs and Industrial Chemicals with experience in Life Science/Healthcare industry. Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for APIs, raw materials, and other direct inputs used in pharmaceutical and healthcare product manufacturing.
This role focuses on sourcing APIs and other key components required for manufacturing. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing global sourcing strategies that ensure cost efficiency, supply continuity, regulatory compliance, and innovation. The ideal candidate brings extensive global expertise in the Life Sciences or Healthcare industry, with a strong track record in supplier management, contract negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration. The role will also collaborate with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure alignment with business goals and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and manage strategic suppliers, fostering long-term partnerships that drive innovation, quality, and cost optimization.
- Lead contract negotiations to secure favorable terms on pricing, quality, delivery, and risk mitigation, ensuring compliance with GMP, FDA, and other regulatory standards.
- Monitor and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions, regulatory changes, and supplier performance through proactive planning and contingency strategies.
- Conduct market intelligence and benchmarking to stay ahead of industry trends, pricing dynamics, and emerging technologies in the API and pharmaceutical raw materials space.
- Oversee supplier qualification, onboarding, and audits, ensuring adherence to GMP, ISO, and corporate quality standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in sourcing processes, leveraging digital tools and best practices to enhance efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.
- Support corporate Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and sustainability goals by promoting responsible sourcing and ethical supplier practices.
Key Competencies
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Chemistry, Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
- 7–10 years of strategic sourcing or category management experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry, with a strong focus on APIs, industrial chemicals and direct materials.
- In-depth knowledge of API manufacturing, regulatory requirements (FDA, GMP, ISO), and global supply markets.
- Proven success in contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, and cost reduction initiatives in regulated environments.
- Proficiency in ERP/procurement systems (JD Edwards, Oracle, or similar).
- Professional certifications such as CPSM, CIPS, or PMP are a plus.
