The Dairy Value Development Strategies Intern is an integral part of our Sales team based out of our US - Quincy, IL - Remote site.


Position Details

Desired Candidate:

Third year agriculture/dairy communications or food marketing (with communications course work) student with specific interest in the dairy value chain

Internship Title: Dairy Value Chain – Strategic Initiatives Intern

Internship Objective:

To become involved and contribute to the Phibro initiative working across the dairy value chain to learn US dairy value chain needs and priorities and to develop and align Phibro programs with these needs and priorities.

Job Description / Scope of Work:

  • Phibro will provide intern education on Nutritional Specialty Products (NSP) and their role in dairy animal health. Intern will also receive an overview of Phibro Core Insight dairy related services.
  • Phibro will provide intern education of the dairy value chain, the US milk cooperative and milk processor structure, movement of milk from farm to consumer, marketing of dairy products and those considerations specific to sustainability including dairy animal health and welfare and dairy farm organizational health
  • Work with Phibro programs related to the Core Insight for Dairy initiative, which include Our Dairy Values™, Vital Insight™, and to develop an understanding of their application to a sustainable dairy and to the Phibro communication and marketing efforts
  • Interact with selected individuals from Phibro, dairy cooperatives, dairy processors and associated trade organizations to understand consumer trends and related industry communication strategies specific to animal health, care, nutrition and sustainability to strengthen consumer trust in dairy
  • Work with selected Phibro Account Manager(s) and customers to experience specific areas related to a sustainable dairy operation
  • Compile learnings related to internship work and present findings to Phibro Management at the conclusion of the internship.   


  • Work with Director, Dairy Value Development Strategies to learn and assist with programs associated with the DVDS goal and the Core Insight for dairy platform. This will include the Our Dairy Values™ and Vital Insight™ programs
  • Interact with selected internal Phibro personnel to learn programs and activities associated with the goals of the DVDS initiative and the Core Insight for dairy platform
  • Work with Director, Communications and Consumer Engagement to create content with value chain entities such as the Northeast Dairy Suppliers Association and other Communications related activities  


  • Orientation and training will be held in May 2021. 
  • Nine weeks of field activity and market exposure under the direction of the Director, Dairy Value Development Strategies
  • Estimated total duration of program is 12 weeks but could vary depending on the candidate’s semester schedule and individual circumstances.
  • One week of compilation, preparation, and presentation of findings to Phibro Management team in August 2021.  

Compensation and Expense Reimbursement:

  • ​​​​​Proposed compensation is $18/hour.  With an assumed 40-hour week, the internship would earn $7920 of direct compensation. 
  • Phibro will reimburse the intern for reasonable travel expenses to include mileage, meals, hotel accommodations, and other direct expenses incurred. 
  • The intern will provide his or her own transportation / vehicle approved by Phibro management and reimbursed for actual business miles at the prevailing IRS rate.  Proof of insurance will be required.

  • The intern will achieve a greater understanding of the US dairy value chain and the specific priorities from consumer to farm
  • The intern will achieve an understanding of dairy farm management practices including nutrition strategies, farm organizational strategies and dairy farm sustainability efforts through the lens of the consumer
  • The intern will have an opportunity to interact with and learn from a diverse group of people from a leading animal health company and the broader US dairy industry
  • The intern will learn valuable skills including project management (as related to researching and contributing to a dairy sustainability planning), strategy planning, time management, coordinating personal travel arrangements and communicating with diverse audiences.
