The Application Scientist - Yeast is an integral part of our Laboratory Services team based out of our US - St. Paul, MN site.

 

Position Details

The –Application Scientist – Yeast is an integral part of our Phibro Ethanol team based out of our Diagnostic Laboratory in St. Paul, MN. Phibro Ethanol is looking for a dynamic individual with a strong knowledge and experience within enzymes for the fuel ethanol industry, as Scientist – Biochemist, to support the continuous growth of the Phibro Ethanol business in North America.

  • In this position as a –Application Scientist - Yeast, you will work in close collaboration with our Phibro Ethanol development team and field colleagues to develop yeast and enzyme products used within ethanol and starch conversion applications.
  • You will mainly serve our internal stakeholders with technical support and documentation on enzyme products; however, you should also expect to be involved in selected customer opportunities.

Through collaboration with the Phibro Ethanol team, you will be responsible for the development of solid technical knowledge of the enzyme product portfolio to gain customer confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ethanol customers with application support related to our solutions with a specific focus on yeast for fermentation applications. The customer base will be mainly ethanol producers.
  • Provide technical support in close cooperation with the sales and technical service teams, product manager, and your colleagues in the Phibro Ethanol development team, including different customer facing activities such as customer visits/virtual calls as well as technical backup to our sales force.
  • Be creative and explore the use of different analytical tools to screen and select strains.
  • Plan, design and execute systematic experiments in our development lab including evaluation of the results to optimize the product performance.
  • Document the effect of our yeast portfolio in technical reports as well as present data via presentation for customers and internal colleagues.
  • Assist in exploring and evaluating new business opportunities and identify key success factors to win business together with sales team and business lead.
  • Participate in customer development projects as well as concepts and internal development projects.
  • Assist in the development and documentation of yeast products throughout the commercialization process, including technical documentation, marketing material, presentations, post-launch support, invention disclosures and patents.
  • Up to 20% travel may be required.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in microbiology, biochemistry, bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, or related field. Candidates with an equivalent educational background and extensive hands-on experience in the ethanol industry are also encouraged to apply.
  • 2-5 years of experience in product development or a related function within a related industrial enzyme supplier or the ethanol industry. A proven interest and knowledge in the specific field is required.
  • Experience or competencies in the use of industrial enzymes will be considered a significant advantage.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
