The Intern is an integral part of our Research and Development team based out of our US - Mendon, IL site.

 

Hourly rate for this position is $17.00/hour.

 

 

Position Details

Interns at Phibro will get a great hands-on experience in a real work environment. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities

The intern will be able to observe and partake in certain daily activities at the PIC that involves exposure to BSL-1 and BSL-2 pathogens.  They will take part in sample collections and/or necropsies that are performed for the studies. They will learn about our facilities' bio security procedures and their importance.  They will also review our SOP's for various tasks they will implement before, during, and after each study.  These tasks may include tagging animals, administering antibiotics, collecting individual weights of the animals, weighing out feed, administering feed to pens, assisting with sample collections, proper cleaning and disinfection procedures, etc. In the lab they will learn how to do ELISA testing, perform DNA extraction, and run PCR work.

 

 

Skills that will be developed

The intern will be working alongside the Innovation Center team to gain experience in an animal research and laboratory setting. They will be shadowing the research coordinators and animal technicians to gain skills and experience within each species.  They will also learn how research is valuable to Phibro's portfolio, as well as gain an understanding of our vision, purpose, and values.  They will be able to meet the PIC team and learn about different career opportunities that they may be interested in after graduating college.

Education and Experience Required

  • No degree required
  • Detail oriented
  • Interested in learning about large animals
  • Dependability/willingness to learn
  • Cross-species experience (ruminant, swine, poultry)
