The Research Veterinarian is an integral part of our Research and Development team based out of our US - Mendon, IL site.

 

Position Details

The Research Veterinarian plays a critical role in providing medical services in support of the health of animals that are part of research studies.  Prescribes medications, establishes and administers treatment plans, and provides oversight of animal care and research protocols to ensure compliance with veterinary standards and statutory requirements.  This role will collaborate closely with research scientists, research coordinators, technicians to ensure animal well-being and successful execution of research projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health, well-being and welfare of research animals
  • Assist with the development of research protocols and monitoring of procedures
  • Assist with sample and data collection, data analysis, and reporting of research findings
  • Write research papers, reports or articles for publication in scientific journals
  • Present findings at conferences or seminars
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulations and ethical guidelines governing animal research
  • Provide clinical care and treatment to research animals as needed, including diagnosing disease and injuries
  • Training staff on animal handling and care procedures as well as educating research on best practices in animal care. 
  • Maintain detailed records of research animals’ health, treatments and outcomes for regulatory compliance and research integrity
  • Identify, develop and implement innovative solutions to improve research outcomes

Education & Experience

  • DVM and eligibility of veterinary licensure in the state of IL
  • At least 2 years of clinical research experience is preferred
  • Veterinary diagnostic skills to assess illness in research animals
  • Treat illness, injuries, and conditions in research animals
  • Ability to handle and care for various species, including ruminants, swine and poultry
  • Clinical research experience with both ruminants and monogastric animals
  • Knowledge around ABSL-1 and ABSL-2 requirements
