The Animal Technician is an integral part of our Research and Development team based out of our US - Mendon, IL site.
Salary range for this position is $50,000.00 - $60,000.00
Position Details
The Animal Technician plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations and execution of scientific research at the Phibro Innovation Center. This position supports the execution and planning of various aspects of scientific research, such as animal care, handling, data collection and the maintenance of facilities. This role involves hand-on work with animals and will assist scientists, research coordinators and other colleagues involved in farm and research activities. This role is directly involved in all of out BSL-2 studies executed at the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Animal Care and Husbandry
- Provide daily care and husbandry for laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, cleaning and monitoring animal health.
- Administer treatments as directed by research protocols or veterinarians.
Research Support
- Assist scientists and research coordinators in setting up experiments and collecting data.
- Monitor animals during experiments, recording observations and reporting any abnormalities.
Facility Maintenance
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of animal holding areas of equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of research facilities.
Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including the handling and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Correctly follow all biosecurity protocols and SOPs for all of our research studies.
Equipment Operation
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment used in animal research.
Key Competencies
Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (animal science, biology, veterinary, etc) is preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience working with animals in a research or clinical setting is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
- Ability to work on a weekend and holiday rotation.
Physical Requirements
- Required to stand constantly
- Required to bend frequently
- Required to use hands constantly
- Required to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis
- Required to shower in and out while working in our BSL-2 facility
