The Instrument & Electrical Technician is an integral part of our Engineering team based out of our US - Chicago Heights, IL site.

 

Position Details

Working within a Reliability Based Maintenance environment, the Instrument/Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining the company’s state of the art electronic ("smart") process measuring and control instrumentation for fermentation, packaging, and utility equipment and systems. They will be responsible for maintaining the company’s power distribution systems and electrical services for fermentation, packaging, utility, and facility equipment. Performing preventive maintenance, repairs, improvements, and modifications to process instrumentation/controls on production and qualified utility equipment and systems including but not limited to: fermenters, pick & place robots, baggers, palletizers, boilers, RO water system and other production equipment, high-voltage substations / switchgear / motors, explosionproof and intrinsically-safe electrical systems, variable frequency drives, process logic controllers, generators / uninterruptible power systems, building control systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and a wide variety of AC/DC industrial electrical applications.

Key Responsibilities

 Configuring, maintaining, and repairing complex computer systems, from Process Logic Controllers to Distributive control systems. Configuring, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing state of the art electronic ("smart") process measuring and control instruments, while still maintaining expertise in older technologies, such as pneumatic.

· Providing training with respect to maintenance of instrumentation equipment and systems in compliance with company standards, procedures, and government regulations (SOPs, GMPs, GLPs, PSM, etc.).

 · Serving as maintenance advisor to provide input to projects in areas of equipment design, parts and material selection, documentation, testing, problem solving, maintenance requirements, project scope, and follow up.

· Being responsible for priority assessment and decision making as it relates to troubleshooting, diagnostics, assembly, repair, and proactive maintenance of equipment and systems in a cost-effective manner.

· Reading and understanding drawings / blueprints, utilizing this knowledge for the installation / repair of new and existing equipment.

· Using test /calibration instruments and computers for troubleshooting and equipment diagnostics.

· Installing and repairing electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of plant machinery and equipment by performing the following duties.

· Installing power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.

Connecting power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connecting cables and wires between machines and equipment.

· Diagnosing malfunctioning equipment such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.

· Replacing faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.

Education & Experience

Applicants are required to have a Journeyman Certificate with experience in a manufacturing environment, or a Technical/Vocational School diploma from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2+ years of electrical or high voltage related work experience. Experience with PLC/DCS systems and instrumentation is strongly preferred.
