The Part-Time Lab Associate/Intern is an integral part of our Research and Development team based out of our US - Corvallis, OR site.

 

Position Details

The Phibro Corvallis Research Center seeks for motivated individual as part-time interns to work at our research farm and/or laboratories. This is an ideal position for students from Oregon State University or Lin-Benton College looking for part-time job related to their career (e.g., animal science, biology, pre-vet, or related).  The CRC team leads a robust, strategic, and coordinated research process with focus on effectively utilizing our human and economic resources to drive and sustain growth of our nutritional products.

Position Responsibilities

The responsibilities listed below will be tailored based on the unit needs and intern development interest, taking in consideration time and frequency of work availability.

  • General animal care of livestock (cattle, sheep, poultry), and laboratory animals.
  • Duties may include feeding, watering, weighing, catching and restraining, collecting blood and other samples, administer medications and vaccinations, euthanasia, dissection, animal loading/unloading, etc.
  • Maintain good animal records including feed intake, refusals, weights, etc.
  • Clean and maintain animal housing areas.
  • Processing of livestock blood samples for plasma/serum harvest
  • Maintain facility to ensure personnel and animal safety (maintain order and cleanliness)
  • Bench testing using selected laboratory techniques

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills with excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proactive and fast learner
  • Good work habits
  • Attention to detail and maintaining strict quality control are critical and essential.
  • Ability to measure weights and volumes
  • Be reliable and consistent for tracking materials and testing results
  • Accurate writing & typing skills required
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Physical ability to work for extended periods, with motor skills to manipulate all needed equipment, and to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must be available to work some weekends. May include early morning or evening working hours.

Work Experience to be gained from Internship:

  • Become familiar with in vitro and ex-vivo methods to evaluate the benefits of supplementing nutritional specialty product for livestock health and productivity
  • Hone farm and/or lab reporting skills and processes
  • Put classroom knowledge to work in a field environment
  • Interact with experienced research biologists
