The Intern is an integral part of our Research and Development team based out of our US - Corvallis, OR site.
Position Details
The Phibro Corvallis Research Center seeks for motivated individual as part-time interns to work at our research farm and/or laboratories. This is an ideal position for students from Oregon State University or Lin-Benton College looking for part-time job related to their career (e.g., animal science, biology, pre-vet, or related). The CRC team leads a robust, strategic, and coordinated research process with focus on effectively utilizing our human and economic resources to drive and sustain growth of our nutritional products.
Position Responsibilities
· Provide animal care and sampling for research protocols at the research farm. Tasks include, but are not limited to, diet preparation, feeding, watering, weighing, catching and restraining, administering medications and vaccinations, and animal loading/unloading.
· Maintain farm equipment and facilities and ensure facility maintains a clean and orderly environment for customer and employee visits
· Collect, track, log, feed and biological samples arriving to our laboratories
· Processing of livestock blood samples for plasma/serum harvest
· Laboratory upkeep (maintain order and cleanliness)
· Keep track of supplies and alert when orders are needed
· Bench testing using different laboratory techniques such as:
- In vitro rumen fermentation
- Colorimetric/chemiluminescence assays
- DNA & RNA isolation
Requirements
· Strong organizational skills with excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
· Proactive and fast learner
· Ability to measure weights and volumes
· Be familiar with general laboratory safety guidelines
· Practice safety measures at all levels
· Be reliable and consistent for tracking materials and testing results
· Accurate typing skills required
· Microsoft Office skills
· Good work habits
Work Experience to be Gained
· Become familiar with in vitro and ex-vivo methods to evaluate the benefits of supplementing nutritional specialty product for livestock health and productivity
· Hone lab reporting skills and processes
· Put classroom knowledge to work in a field environment
· Interact with experienced research biologists
